Program of Study

Degree Requirements for the Bachelor of Arts in Women’s and Gender Studies

The Major in Women’s Studies requires completion of 39 hours.

Core Courses

Four Women's Studies courses totaling 12 hours:

  1. Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies
  2. Feminist Theory
  3. Research Methods in Feminist Scholarship
  4. Service Learning in Women's and Gender Studies

Elective Courses

In addition to the 12 hours in required core courses, students will take 27 hours of electives.

At least 18 of these elective hours must be in Women's Studies courses or courses cross-listed in Women's Studies in at least three different departments and covering four areas of concentration that define the field:

  1. Sexual Identities
  2. Race/Ethnicity and Class in the U.S.
  3. Global Perspectives
  4. Creative Arts

Up to nine elective hours may be taken in cognate courses.

Degree Requirements for the Minor in Women’s and Gender Studies

Students completing a minor must take a total of 18 hours.

WS 2010: Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies is required.

Students must take 15 additional hours in Women's and Gender Studies courses or courses cross-listed in Women's and Gender Studies, drawn from at least three disciplines. No more than six hours may be in any one discipline and six hours must be in courses numbers 3000 and above.
